I started playing Smoke as soon as I got home from Worlds 2016, and other than a few months where I tried out Geist and Sunny, I only took Smoke to tournaments in the two years before Magnum Opus. I did extremely well with a netdeck (maybe tweaked slightly) one week before Worlds, but pride got the better of me and I really wanted to run a personal brew at Worlds so I spun up something that just didn't take me very far.
What follows is the same text as in my Corp writeup
Unfortunately, I don't have the Discord message logs to recreate a tournament log years later, like I could for my 2016 lists (Corp Runner), but for good reason. In 2016, my local friends had given up the game and the only place I talked about it was Discord, and none of them were at the tournament. I had fun during my matches, but in my free time, I was a pretty anti-social wallflower, holed up in my hotel room or lurking off to the side chatting on Discord almost the whole time, only striking up a conversation with Eady and another participant toward the end of the final day. By Magnum Opus, in contrast, my Discord friends had recommended I join Stimslack and connect with Team UK there. I also started hanging out in the Artist Colony and hastily made a flimsy alt art to bring up with me to have to trade with other artists, and give to all my opponents in the tournament. So this time, when I got to Roseville, instead of keeping to myself on Discord, I was either chatting to new acquaintances in person or on Slack (so the messages are long lost to time) between rounds, or grabbing a meal or jamming games in the lobby with Team UK, or hanging out at the Artist Colony meet up. As a result, I have a lot more fond memories of the people this time around, but no recollection of the tournament.
The only thing I know about the main event was that I was 4-4 at the lunch break, and went 5-8-1 by the end, from the only Discord messages I made the whole day. No idea what the side breakdown was. I have zero memories of specific plays or moments from games, or IDs I faced, beyond one MaxX who was borrowing the acrylic ID their friend qualified for the previous day.
