3 Mistakes - 9th at UK Regionals: North

MattOhNo 32

This is your pretty standard late 2024 grug Kit, doing what lists I copied from do - but with more mistakes!

When I was sleeving this deck up on Friday night, I made 3 mistakes:

On the train up to Sheffield for the last Regional of the 2024 season, I noticed the first mistake - in haste I'd not realised that one of my sleeves was completely different - I'd not checked my deck at the end of building, and there was a light teal sleeve.

When I was counting cards and wondering if I'd have to buy new sleeves at Patriot Games, I realised the second mistake - this deck had 47 cards (one in a wrong sleeve). I've been playing Girls for a while, and almost all the variants of that have enough tutoring and shaper nonsense that going to 47 or even higher is fine. Grug-style Kit absolutely does not do that - so out went one Annicam (the deck's fast enough that 2 is fine), and one Stoneship. I'm fairly sure I didn't use Stoneship all day, but it was nice to have, and has utility.

The last mistake, I didn't notice until I think round 4, when I looked at Juli and wondered why I'd put her in the deck. I wondered again in round 5, a very tight 241, when every click counted - she only synergised with one other card in the deck... it was only in the downtime after that game that I realised - I got the wrong Moreira sister - cableCarnage and bowlsley both used Debbie in their lists (and I did at the Worlds Showdown the week before, having just copied bowlsley's list), but in my mess of Friday-night deckbuilding, I misread something and got the wrong card, a near-dead draw.

I still went 4-1 with this deck, despite having a totally dead card I drew at least twice. Such is the power of grug!

I'd also like to take a moment to say what an excellent time the UK Regionals season has been - TOs in the community came together to fill a gap in the Organised Play space, and the community responded really well to support them - getting great turnouts at all the events, and selling out several of them. Hopefully next year's District-level events (hat tip NSG OP for seeing the community and responding) are even better

This was a particularly great event for me, not just my best large event performance (alas bubbling out the cut), but also seeing friends, going with a local player group and seeing them do really well as well, including 2 players who had their first big tournament - shout out to MattBag, who rediscovered Netrunner at the Midlands regional, has become a regular at Nottingham after not having played for 8 years, and got an even record at North Regional.

I'm looking forward to UK Nats like never before, though I plan to take a bit more care when sleeving!

Doing this well at a UK regionals with an outright brick in your deck just shows your piloting skills.
