The Runner accesses Behold! on the top of R&D, and the Corp pays to give the Runner 2 tags. What happens if the Corp chooses to draw cards with NBN: Reality Plus?

The Corp will draw Behold! and the next card in R&D, causing the access to end. The Runner will not be able to trash Behold!.

  • Updated 2023-10-04

The Runner accesses Behold! in the middle of accessing multiple cards from R&D. The Corp, playing NBN: Reality Plus, uses Behold! to give the Runner 2 tags, and draws 2 cards. Where does the Runner resume accessing cards?

The Runner continues accessing from the topmost card of R&D that they have not already accessed. If the Corp drew past the point the Runner already accessed, the new top of R&D is the next card accessed. If the Corp uses the effect of NBN: Reality Plus to draw 2 cards the Runner has already accessed, the Runner continues accessing R&D from the position they were already accessing.

Reviews

Behold!, a double-tagging ambush. (The “yellow Snare!”? The “mellow Ganked!”?)

For example:

  • If you ambush them running-first-click, and they immediately & manually detag, then you've paid [$4][click]) and they've lost [click][click]+[$4].
  • If you ambush them running-last-click, then you have 2 tags to check/spend.
(The Automata Initiative era)

Jinteki has Snare!, NBN has Behold!. Basically the same thing, at the same price.

Of course, since NBN: Reality Plus is now banned, the value of this trap has gone down a bit. Giving 2 tags for 4 credits is okay and basically just rob the runner of two clicks, since there is no economic differential.

Still, 2 tags means more tag punishment are enabled, such as Shipment from Vladisibirsk. This trap is meant to be play in a deck that storm the runner with tags.

Out of faction, it is harder to justify, as most other factions just need to stick one tag. And for the same influence cost, you can had Oppo Research, Chekist Scion or Ping, all of which would be a better value usually.

Art, quote and name are all the BEST of the card pool coming from The Automata Initiative, even if the effect is not as amazing. Splendid!
