Basic strategy : Turn 1 : empty your account and run (Personal preference R&D) Next turns : improvise, depending on situation :þ

A good starting hand is, as any shaper, some tutor (Self-modifying Code (aka SMC), Code Siphon) or what you want in hand and a Personal Workshop. If you're not used to windows when you can spend credits on workshop, you just have to know that you can do it before the ice encounter. For example, if there is a parasite on your Personal Workshop, and you have credits, when the corp (let's say a NBN) rez a Pop-up Window you can spend credits to install parasite on it BEFORE encountering it, so you will never encouter it, and lose what you have in your pool. In works in a same way with clone chip and SMC [as personal workshop]. As any shaper you will need to adapt a lot on what is played by the corp.

Let's explain why I choose some of what is here.

SMC , Clone Chip and Personal workshop are just must includes in 3. Some players choose to not include the shop, but in very usefull to have a Micro-wave oven in play :)

Code Siphon allows you to install femme fatal easily or an Atman at any value (not with siphon ability, it's not an install cost, but you can spend Toolbox credits for it). I prefer it to Test Run, in a way that you don't have to install it back.

Imp : a lot of infuence, but it's worth it. Simply because there is a lot of assets you can't trash (let's say a SanSan city grid ). Because it's hard to have money when you access cards, it help to trash what will be either needed by corp (scorshed, SanSan, …), or for you in a while (NAPD contract, which is difficult to steal as Nasir, or Fetal AI ), agenda that you should trash, either to force the use of Jackson by the corp, or slowing it by preventing it to have anything to score. Not more than one imp (like any other program) because there is a lot of recursion and crad to take it from everywhere (except your grip).

Let's talk about link and ZU now (yeah the order of that text doesn't make any sense). As for NAPD, having money available is possible, but will hardly be the case when you encounter trace. For exemple Hunter (yes not very used, but it's an example) you will receive only 1 credit the first time you encounter it, and you will have to avoid a tag if you have workshop installed. So link can be very usefull, and then, ZU comes immediatly with that. After some games, I though that Gordian Blade could be as good, it's up to you to take what you prefer. If so you can possibly replace Dyson Mem Chip by some others chip (like CyberSolutions Mem Chip). Gordian Blade can be boosted for all the run, allowifg you to pre-spend credits during a run. Or use Cyber-Cypher, with scavenge to change the server if needed.

Big ice like Wotan & cie, could be break the first time it's encountered, but for needed time, D4v1d is a good solution to ice like that.

Sharpshooter for big destroyer that cost not that much (Archer, hello). Mimic for others (you have Datasuckers, with Atman, others sentry will not be a problems).

Now let's explain Stimhack. I loose everything on Stimhack when encountering a newly rezzed ICE. That's how it works. It's sad. But we can't do anything about it. So why including it ? Simply because you can use SMC before encountering it, and you will need only 2 credits to install any program from your stack with it, and you can use Personal Workshop on anything on it (like a The Toolbox, or 2 R&D interface, or anything you want). So it allows you to adapt to anything whatever the corp rez. Ho, and remember you do lose credits from Ghost Runner and Net Celebrity.

Particular timing 2.0 : tollbooth. A tollbooth will make you have 5 credits. Since it's your turn, your ability takes place before the one of tollbooth, so if you have 0, you will have 8, and then you will have to pay 3 on tollbooth. So the first time you encounter it you will always have 5 credits to break its subroutines. And with Femme Fatale ? If you but your Femme Fatal in play before the tollbooth is rezzed, and the corp rezzes it, if you bypass it with Femme Fatal, you won't get the 8 credits from rez cost. So you will get either 5 or nothing.

Here it is.

I would swap out the 2 Stimhacks for Rototurrets, which are far better early game.

...

Having said that, I played against this deck at a Store Championship last week and it is pretty good. There is a reason you managed to reach 2nd place after all ;)

A few questions for posterity:

  • Did the toolboxes pull their weight?
  • Would you add another Kati Jones or did you feel that one was enough?
  • What's the match-up that you fear the most?

Most feared match-up is more likely to be Blue Sun: Powering the Future. For two reasons. The first one is Elizabeth Mills, which is very annoying with it's ability to trash my Micro-wave oven. But that's just a small problem. The main problem is if it's a good player. Because he can read where I am likely to run and he can put an icewall in front of that server, and send it back to hand next turn. So it is difficult to build a strong economy to pass through ICEs, and steal agenda, Nasir ability will become a big burden.

Then about Kati Jones, I felt that 1 was enough for me. But when I encountered Snatch and Grab, I realised that maybe in some case it wasn't enough. But personally I would go on 2 Armitage Codebusting and 1 Kait instead of the opposite. Economy of this deck do'nt need Kati, it is just a card I am happy to have if I come to get it during a game.

And toolboxes. Just to make runs easier against people that play Ash 2X3ZB9CY, link is quite useful. In a very slow game, recurrent credits are very valuable, since they can be used to pay for initial cost of Atman, and make runs far less expensive. For what it brings I though that's probably be the best console to fit in there. CJFM likes to play with Desperado, but I choose to splash D4v1d, so it's hardly possible to fit both of those cars in there. But it seems to work well, and allow you to possible trash things like Caprice Nisei. Why not Astrolabe, but well, I think the 2 memory of The Toolbox are important for the ring I want to deploy : Atman, Imp, Datasucker, Lady, Zu and space for Parasite and others situation cards (Sharpshooter, Deus X for example).

@ミドリン Hey! Glad I could be of some inspiration! I haven't used Desperado in my Nasir for a while, but I am happy that someone's referencing it :) I'm a Toolbox / Dyson Nasir player now.

@ミドリン oh, and is there a reason not to include Order of Sol? Was Code Siphon that good?

21 Feb 2015 ミドリン

@CJFM I don't have the data pack with Order of Sol, so I didn't include it. Must be good, but i don't know yet what I would remove to put it in there, I will have to try.

Code Siphon was good since it force the corp to rez Ice if he or she sees that you could pass for cheap and fear for other servers. I use it a bit for Femme Fatale, but not very efficiently. Most time I use it to install something like Cerberus "Lady" H1 or Imp for 1 tag. Not as good as a Account Siphon could be for some runners, but it's worth a long term try to evaluate all possibilities with it. Once it was very effective when I could use it to install a Femme Fatale on the only Tollbooth that was on R&D, that cost too much with ZU. One more Test Run and one less Code Siphon doesn't seem a bad idea.
