FIRST Design - Guarding the Newb 1.0

DustyCorpse 1

New to Netrunner and this is my first corp deck. I figured that NEXT Design was a good first deck choice bc it gets down early ice to hinder aggro runner decks and can build up an "ice fortress" against the decks that slowly piece together their credits and ice breakers for a big run.

I have played a few test games and haven't quite figured out whether I should be aiming for a fast advance win or stack up my ice and grind out a win in the long haul. Originally, I had 2x Sunset instead of the Shipment from SanSan, but there wasn't a situation in any of my games where I felt I needed it, so SanSan was subbed in and I have yet to play with it. I also found that I had a lot of ice that cost too much and I was always having to make the tough choice of going broke and rezzing my ice or keeping my money and letting the runner through. I had 2x Viper and another Heimdall 2.0, but removed them for 3x NEXT Bronze which is much cheaper and better for the early game. To keep my money up, I swapped 2x Shipment from MirroMorph out for my 1 copy of Thomas Haas and another Adonis Campaign.

Please feel free to leave comments and suggestions as all constructive criticism is welcomed.

This needs a lot more cheap ETR ice. The ability is only useful if you can rez a bunch of cheap ice early.

You're better off having less agenda points then needed. So aim for 20 with 49 card deck. Take 1 more Priority Requisition and drop both Mandatory Upgrades. Take out 1 Efficiency Committee for 1 Accelerated Beta Test. ABT and PR are perfect for this identity.

If you want a long game with expensive ices you're better off with sustainable asset economy. Drop -3 Green Level Clearance, -2 Shipment from SanSan, -1 Thomas Haas for +3 Melange Mining Corps and +3 Pad Campaigns.

-2 Matrix Analyzer, doesn't seem to be worth 4 influence points, especially given you have no ices and almost no assets that can be advanced. You are also not in a hurry. Tollbooth is taxing, but you have so many other strong ices that is probably not worth influence points either. -3 Chimera is good for Fast Advance decks but is very expensive in long games. I would take +3 Shadows, +3 Ice Walls and +1 Datapike instead. I would free up additional 2 influence points (-1 Jackson Howard, - 1 Security Subcontract) and fit in +3 Simone Diego.

With all these changes you get much more money. You also get a bit more flexibility on ice management, having some cheap Weyland ices you can advance with Simone Diego along the game. You loose speed and a bit of utility (Jackson).

Isabel McGuire is an interesting choice. I include a single copy of her in almost all my corp decks and she seems to do wonders whenever she shows up.
