Turbodrip Kaplan v0.1

#endgame 130

The plan: cycle your deck at an absurd rate, set up for 5-10 free credits/turn and threaten everything with 3 fairly good breakers.

I placed 13th at the 2015 Sydney Regionals with this deck, and may have made top 8 but the risk of missing an interstate bus forced me to forfeit my final (corp) game.

It should be pretty obvious how to pilot this thing: Hayley's trigger should almost always be used for resources and ideally off the back of a Career Fair. Playing Daily Casts + drip (Data Folding/Underworld Contact) is better than playing drip + drip as it stops you losing tempo as much.

Stimhack to SMC out Garotte, but try not to lose your Levy. The rig is pretty brittle until you get that killer on the table. Try to get The Toolbox out with Modded as soon as possible (but with your card draw you can probably hold out for the second copy if setup is proving tough) - you need it to keep Data Folding running and turn on Underworld Contact.

Skip Ice Carver if they're only running tiny ICE, but it saved me a lot of money blowing through Eli 1.0 and Architect.

The Levy AR Lab Access is more for flatline protection than recursion as most of the economy is not consumable. This makes the deck reasonably resilient against Blacklist unless you suspect flatline, as you can usually get everything out in the first pass.

So that's the good part. The deck is pretty optimal for what it is, but fixing its issues is going to require some work:

  • It really wants Deus X and possibly Atman: I lost two games vs RP. One, I faceplanted Komainu with 2 breakers, Levy and a bunch of other stuff in-hand because I was forced into running early. Another, I couldn't deal with an Excalibur on the remote and only had one shot at the psi game per agenda.
  • Adding any more programs interferes with the Data Folding.
  • The setup time is pretty long. I did beat NEH the two times I faced it, but it took a fair bit of luck.
  • Toolbox is really awkward to get out, and the recurring credits go to waste for quite a few turns until you get set up. It might be worth switching consoles (Box-E? Astrolabe + Akamatsus?) and dropping Underworld Contacts for something more immediately useful (Armitage? - smooths out the starts too). More consumable resources will also make the Levy better.
  • Kati Jones doesn't fit how this deck likes to spend clicks - I couldn't fit her into many of my turns. Another argument for Armitage.
  • 5-6 credits of drip is great, but really bursting up is tough against serious glaciers.
  • Even with Career Fair, Earthrise is pretty tough to fund when you're spamming other resources. I think a second Symmetrical Visage and possibly a Gene Conditioning Shoppe would go well in those slots.
  • I had a number of mulligans where I was stuck with no econ and a Quality Time. Blind QT turn 1 isn't as bad as some other decks, but it still sucks a bit.
