Eko Roja

seurimas 101

This is my pass at a Ekomind/Overmind deck. There's a couple design decisions worth noting here:

  • No e3. I feel like Overmind is largely beneficial for its ability to gain a ton of free subroutine breaks. e3 would be nice occasionally for the ability to squirrel away tokens for the late game, but the biggest problem has been large servers of single subroutine ice. I gave e3 a pass here because of this.

  • Deus X. This is beyond good. It is essential. Facechecking a Komainu will ruin your day without it. Seeing Psychic Field will possibly destroy your entire rig. Tack onto that that Deus X is just a nice card because most decks have AP or net damage to prevent.

  • No Origami. Less sure on this change. I may swap out Borrowed Satellite/Underworld for 3 Origami and some other late-game econ.

  • Crypsis as an emergency breaker. I feel this is very important.

  • Reina Roja. Keeps the ICE down a very little bit. Has that lovely link for Borrowed/Underworld.

Strengths:

  • Your lategame rig looks something like: 2-3 datasuckers, 1-2 Deus X, Overmind(s) with TONS of counters, 1-2 medium, all the parasites you want. Seriously, if you manage your hand well, you have 0 memory problems and it's wonderful.

  • You don't have to install Ekomind until you're ready. You can get by with Parasites/Deus X/Crypsis for a while sometimes.

  • Hand size is a wonderful thing. Max hand of 14. Duggar's+Clone Chip can also drive a 24-memory Overmind drop. That's A LOT of counters.

Weaknesses:

  • DAMAGE. Deus X helps with net damage and Scorched Earths are usually saved for the kill (which would be very tough with a 14-card hand). However, net damage can still ruin your day in PE or a bad Komainu face-check. And as time goes on, bag-n-tag decks will learn that damage is almost always worthwhile against Ekomind decks.

  • Lotus Field. We really do rely on Datasucker+Parasites to keep ICE down to manageable, Overmind-able levels. Lotus Field wrecks your day, and might be a good case for 1-of or 2-of Knight.
