NAPD Least Wanted

Pinkwarrior 2351

The Deck is a tweak of one I made as a competitive Prof deck and although quite strong it wasn't quite as good as other decks. But with the most Wanted list coming I noticed that The Professor: Keeper of Knowledge is completely unhindered by it and the decks it has a harder time against HB & NBN are gonna get stung by the list so I actually think this could work when the list hits.

This is probably the only decent looking professor deck I've ever seen. No space for a sucker to combo with John Masanori? you could drop an astrolabe, also I've found that 3 RDI is absolutely the way to go because of those games where they are both in the bottom of your deck and you exert 0 R&D pressure. Perhaps a medium instead? Regardless looks strong :)

@shmeguy Medium didn't work well originally cos of the Cyberdex Virus Suite that was everywhere at the time, after the dust settles from MWL's effects it may get reconsidered though.

That's also part of why Datasucker isn't in their atm. I would like a Datasucker must admit but I the deck really benefits from that draw from Astrolabe, I feel I could drop Gordian Blade for Yog.0 as people are unlikely to expect it with the MWL.

A 3rd RDI would be nice but 2 is enough I find and cutting something else would hit the balance of the deck. I've tried to keep everything in the deck to the minimum I feel is required.

I'd drop 1 Kati Jones for the 3rd R&D Interface, since she's unique and can easily clog your Hand.

3 Jan 2016 Pinkwarrior

@haywire The hand rarely gets clogged like that as Faust puts them to work and it's important to have tho's extra cards to throw to it along with the odd program you can Clone Chip into play.

@shmeguy I'd honestly get a ruling from Lukas on this one. The NAPD MWL reduces the maximum influence of your identity by 1 for each listed card used, whereas the Professor's ID ability is that the first program doesn't count against your influence limit. So you're influence should be zero if you include Parasite. Also, you wouldn't be able to include 3 Clone Chips either, as they're on the list too.

4 Jan 2016 Pinkwarrior

@Mechanoise Theirs no need for a ruling it clearly states that a runners Influence cannot be reduce to less than one by this method.

@Pinkwarrior Yes you are correct, I read that wrong. In that case, Neither Parasite or the Clone Chips can be included.

4 Jan 2016 Pinkwarrior

@Mechanoise erm what I think you find they all can be included as non of them effect the professor's influence.

4 Jan 2016 Mechanoise

@Pinkwarrior I think interpretation of wording is very important here. If I'm understanding you correctly you're saying that as the Professor's influence is already 1 then it has been reduced to its lowest possible number, therefore any NAPD MWL cards are fair game; whereas I'm thinking that as the Professor's influence is 1 then it's impossible to add any NAPD MWL cards, since they must reduce the maximum influence, but they can't because it's at its lowest.

I hope that makes sense.

4 Jan 2016 Pinkwarrior

@Mechanoise I see where your coming from now, but no that's not correct it doesn't say you cannot take a card that's on the list if it cannot reduce your Influence.

If it was that way then they would just have said that the cards are worth 1 more influence even in their own faction it has clearly been done in away to avoid really low influence ID's from losing all their in faction cards. Granted this means the prof is currently the only ID that can use this but also they wouldn't have included that line if that wasn't the purpose of it.

4 Jan 2016 Mechanoise

@Pinkwarrior Meant in the politest way possible, but I disagree. Adding an extra influence can be a little more confusing for in-faction cards, as a Clone Chip to a Shaper is worth 1 influence, not 3, (as could be interpreted.) I find their existing wording more universal. I think the "cannot reduce below 1" to put a form of restriction on, as a future all-Shaper deck could abuse this system and include all cards that are on the MWL.

Either way, we're at a debate on wording and interpretation, so I've posed this to Lukas. I'm happy to be wrong, so long as there's clarification. I wouldn't have seen this from your perspective if you wouldn't have told me. Check back here once in a while and I'll let you know what his answer is :)

PS. I play Kit, so I'm more than happy to go with your interpretation ;)

4 Jan 2016 Pinkwarrior

@Mechanoise Well that's fine tho I would think that Damon Stone is the guy to ask now. Also the fact that your interpretation requires you to add a rule that isn't their makes mine seem much more likely.

I also feel that that line just would not exist otherwise & see no problem with an ID taking all the cards on the list to suedo abuse it as that then means you have only 1 influence for out of faction cards & as a prof player i have to say that's actually worse imo.

I also want to say am not trying to be impolite but more very enthusiastic about my point.

4 Jan 2016 Pinkwarrior

you have made me wonder if you could even abuse it in another ID and the best i can come up with is Kit with 3 lady 3 ppvp 3 clone chip and a yog not sure what you could do with that mind and am sure that having other cards would be better.

4 Jan 2016 Mechanoise

@Pinkwarrior I've had a response back, and it confers with your take on the MWL system. Apparently I'm not the only one who's been asking, and I can see where I, and others, are getting it wrong. We're told each MWL card reduces max influence by 1, and an identity can't go below 1 influence, and in the Professor's case we're trying to satisfy both statements and artificially create a restriction; (i.e. since a Clone Chip reduces max inf, but Prof is already at minimum inf. then we can't use the card because we can't drop the inf. lower.)

So yes, you are correct.

5 Jan 2016 Zoide

@Mechanoise Hey man, is there any chance you could upload the original PSD / XCF files of your kickass custom playmats?

Sorry for the strange way to contact you. I Pm'd you at BGG but I think you no longer visit that website. I tried to PM you here but it looks like there's no PM functionality :P

Thanks

5 Jan 2016 Mechanoise

@Zoide Wow, how'd you find me! Yeah I'm the same guy, and I'm afraid I don't use BGG anymore. I think the original link to the PSD file expired, or was overloaded, and I didn't re-upload it because I've had far too many people claim it was their design and sell it without crediting me as the author. I think I have the original PSD file on my old laptop, and I'll have to dig it back out again, and that won't be for at least a few weeks as I'll be on work visits throughout the US. May I ask whether it's going to be for personal use or not?

5 Jan 2016 Zoide

@Mechanoise Oh it wasn't that hard, I just Googled for Mechanoise and Netrunner ;)

I want it for personal use at home and would print it through a sublimation company here in Costa Rica.

To be honest, I might not even need the PSDs. The only reason is that the printing company said that the colors might not be as correct in the JPG version, plus the PSDs would let them make any needed tweaks without hurting the image quality as much.

That said, your 3675 x 2175 JPGs on BGG look pretty darn good! What do you think?

Thanks!

I am also working on Professor these days.

And to be honest, Technical writers are just so unplayable.

you need to use 1 click to install, and 1 click to trigger.

unless you can get 10 credits back, or it's doing absolutely nothing compared to other econ cards.

6 Jan 2016 Shmeguy

M8 technical writer is bananas, even prepaid kate is finding 3 deck slots for it these days.

6 Jan 2016 Pinkwarrior

@say200426 Shmeguy is totally right Technical Writer is amazing econ. It dose depend on your deck as to how much you can get out of it, but it works here as half of my deck is hardware & programs also you only need about 6c for it to be worth while that pays you the same as a Lucky Find though you had to wait for it you are getting paid for doing what you were going to do anyway and since the prof can't have lucky find anyway its a god send for him.

6 Jan 2016 Pinkwarrior

A small update - Stimhack is not really a card I use much thanks to Faust & other cheap programs I wasn't finding much use for it when I got it so I've swapped it over for one of my more favoured cards Utopia Shard which I can use as another defence against Scorched Earth or in combo with Nerve Agent.

Another swap is the Gordian Blade for Yog.0 which so far has been working out well and with Net-Ready Eyes & D4v1d isn't having any problems in the deck.

Lastly something I owe to another player at my local games night is Plascrete Carapace for Bookmark it's cheaper and can fulfil the same roll as well as been just useful in other match ups & with Utopia Shard in the deck also I feel this should be enough.
