~STARTUP~ I am the Icebreaker

Kenhie 107

I'm back at it again with my usual shenanigans! Quetzal, a horrible identity right? WRONG!

Yeah, she's pretty bad but it's still super fun! This deck went 3-0 at Startup Circuit Opener.

1st Round: Against Pravdivost Consulting: Political Solutions

2nd Round: Against Weyland Consortium: Built to Last

3rd Round: Against Near-Earth Hub: Broadcast Center

This deck has two goals.

1: Ice control! Run thru servers when corporation is poor so you can play En Passant to destroy unrezzed ice. Imp any ice or key-combo cards you see. Use Tread Lightly by surprise to make rezzing ice extremely expensive.

2: When you do successfully access a server, Make sure it counts!! Multi-access cards via Docklands Pass, Jailbreak, Finality. You don't have ice breakers, so run smart.

Poison Vial works great in this deck by utilizing Quetzal's ability or Botulus. Run when they think it's safe!

If the server as multiple ice protecting. Well tough luck. Switch servers or use Bankhar to force yourself in that server! Your goal is to be able to hit any server at any given time and put pressure.

Mulligan for a Verbal is key. It'll start your engine rolling and helps card draw efficient to maximize Bankhar because you're gonna take damage. But it's okay, keep strong and you'll win!

Hope you try this deck out and surprise players with a Quetzal deck :D

Great list!

Some questions:

Thanks for sharing!

@GreatA1exander Tollbooth is a pain in my arse! I'm so glad I barely saw any haha. Made me second guess my Hush decision

@Diogene

  • Ghosttongue: I, personally, didn't feel it would have been efficient enough for me. I didn't want to intentionally take core damage because it causes one less hand size for Tsakhia "Bankhar" Gantulga moments too. Since it's such a heavy event deck, Prepaid VoicePAD had more usage over the course of the game allowing me to play multiple event cards if needed.

  • Earthrise Hotel: Other than the fact that it cost 1 credit extra, I simply had more value with Verbal Plasticity being a one card stay in play all game card. Then utilizing the remaining 2 copies as potential Tsakhia "Bankhar" Gantulga fuel. There are also times where I'm keeping cards in my hand and if I had used Earthrise Hotel, it would have forced me to continuing drawing not giving me flexibility. Considering that the theme is ice-control. I had to sometimes wait patiently for opportunities to strike rather than force the action.

  • Marrow: MU isn't a big problem in this deck since there isn't a lot of programs, but Finality is really there for last resort. Having a bigger hand size and sabotaging one every time Corp scores would be nice. I didn't believe it had a good enough reason to be in this deck

Thanks for giving Quetzal: Free Spirit some love and congrats on the good showing.

I'm not sure I get the three CC's. That's a lot of inf that could be put into more ICE control like FAO and Emergency Shutdown. Fermenter also costs 2 clicks for the payoff and can still be retrieved with Katorga Breakout. I don't think this is a rush deck and it already has plenty of burst econ, so the tempo hit seems worth the trade-off.

@OddballThanks! Gotta keep the love throughout Anarch.

@BaxderYou could definitely do Forged Activation Orders and Emergency Shutdown. I play-tested with them and I didn't find it as powerful as I was hoping for. But with the right player running the deck. You could definitely hit them hard with it. I chose to go with Creative Commission over Fermenter mainly to maximize Prepaid VoicePAD. When I was running different variations of this deck, I found myself starving for credits and I hated feeling poor when I'm already handicapping myself. Since control is the name of the game, I'd usually save Imp for Ice / Fast Advancement cards and have burst econ to trash every assets I encounter. I'm constantly poor in this deck!
