If Bob Ross was a runner he would paint Quetzal

gawbo005 2

This is my attempt to make a competitive quetzal deck.

The main idea is that you don't need any other icebreaker then eater and Quetzals ability. Before order and chaos came out I experimented with paintbrush in Quetzal and it worked real well to get her into a server. But it was Janky and it was missing some power.

When the Big box came out it added the cutlery events and eater. it gave me better reasons to spend the 8 influence on two cards

Main strategy is to get out eater early. This is your main defense to help face check against ice safely. The corp is less likely to run single barriers against you so having eater to help with any negative effects as well as taxing the corp by rezing ice makes for a strong early game.

The two biggest drawbacks so far is for late game you need paintbrush and keyhole. as you can imagine these are very memory intensive.

When you are running with this deck you have to keep several things in mind. First you have to get the corp to rez ice so you can destroy it. That is where I like eater because they have to rez the ice to prevent access. Then you can destroy it later and do it again. Use paintbrush to help with Quetzals ability or to use a cutlery event.

This deck is also does not make many runs a turn. It is very click taxing destroying ice with paintbrush so you will not get many multiple access a turn if the corp is laying down many layers of ice on their turn (a tactic they can only keep up for so long.)

Card draw can be difficult So get earthrise out quickly and start loading money on Kati. You will stall if you have no e3 or eater so that needs to be a priority. paintbrush and keyhole can wait if need be. If memory becomes short (no consule or memory chips). I am also worried this deck will need more econ to make consistent runs a turn (this is the reason I run spinal modem.)

Now to justify my card selections

The cutlery events help get rid of any annoying early ice as to help with accesses.

Keyhole has always been very punishing for corp but it was always expensive to get in. with eater it becomes a superstar.

Now for paintbrush. This card single handily wins me games with Quetzal. It allows you to change any ice to another sub type to fit your needs making it more versatile. Need to get past a big code gate, make it a barrier. Need to destory a sentry but only have spooned, paintbrush solves the problem. It takes the events and transforms them to a "destroy target ice" double event.

E3: its Quetzal she needs them to help get her through multiple subroutines with barriers.

Cyber threat works real well with this decks play style for servers with unrezed ice. Either you get a free access or you tax them with rezing ice to keep you out. It also gives you info to use the cutlery events.

Eater is the new anarch face checking breaker. you can cheaply and safely break through ice that could hurt your hand. Last thing you want is something to destroy that ever important E3 or paintbrush.

Medium is to synergize with keyhole runs. Run with medium, go through the stack and keyhole to make them reshuffle.

First attempt at publishing a deck. Feedback would be appreciated.

Neat idea! I think you are right that these cutlery events do make paintbrush seem a lot more powerful. Also I love the deck name!

Your build seems reasonable to me, solid econ, and card draw to keep things moving. Couple of things I might do would be cut it down to 45 and maybe get imps and wanton destructions in there. That early disruption can really help buy you some time while you dig for the parts of your rig. Also, I'm not sure you need both medium and keyhole, although your reasoning makes sense, maybe just me but I find when I hit one of the two it's usually all the r&d pressure I need.

I agree that this deck needs a little more HQ punishment. I have been testing around having lower ice and it actually makes things difficult. When paintbrush is out it turn every cutlery event into a double "trash target rezed ice" event. and it slows down my game considerably to not have one in hand. That being said I can very easily take out other events like cyber threat (works well but it can be cut) and even same old thing. Same old thing spends more time on the table because I never need to use it. It makes sense to want to have it just in case but paintbrush makes me never need to recur them.

I will be making and posting a 1.5 build soon
