Sportsmetal still good?

bluestar 74

Trying to find a new corp before Singapore Nats so I don't have to play the PE shell game.

Despite the meta generally being considered to be in the Corps' favour at the moment, it feel like this is only true for decks that can play around the speed and consistency that current runners have. Much of which largely invalidates ICE in some form. Forcing corps to rely on value engines and click compression chicanery like Asa and R+ to out tempo and out mind game the runner. All of which is fine if you like those playstyles.

Que Sportsmetal. In the lead up to AusNats I'd played a few games against this ID using MCA Austerity policy in combo with some variation on asset spam or FA. But with the relative consistency of PD and Asa, I don't know if Sportsmetal is a reasonable variant.

Regardless, I love the interaction between the ID and Tranquility Home Grid. Which just screams fully upgraded Doom server to pump out those points.

In practice it struggles with tempo. If it pulls off a Salvo early, the agenda spam + econ procs makes it hard to come back from. And if Tucana is firing off, your servers are getting chonky. But if it doesn't get ahead, then the match up comes into play. Bankhar invalidates almost all ice. Turtle can often just walkthrough the bioroids until it can eat your Brans. And Turbine and Takobi shapers are still bopping around out stripping your defenses.

All things said and done I've tinkered with this list, adding and removing NEXT lockdowns, Nico campaigns. Toying with the upgrade ratios and plugging in different ICE and various econ operations. This is the best version of the list atm, but I still think its not quite there. Its fun to play but not consistent enough to be viable. I'm not sure if its just not glacial enough or if its better to go wide and abuse Wage workers and MCA Austerity.

So I open the floor to the community. What are your thoughts?

Hey Blue.

First thought is your agenda suite is a little wonky. you could swap a Salvo testing for a Luminal Trans and still be legal which would be a much better agenda to score.

you also have some FA peices (biotic and Oberth) but only 3 agendas that you can use these on to FA (the 3 hyperloops) - which I don't think you'd be particularly excited to spend either a biotic on to score or agenda forfeit

Maybe if they were swapped to megaprix's and you played the luminal over a 5/3 I could see this plan coming together better (although there still some anti synergy there I guess as you dont ever want to forfeight a megaprix to Archer/Oberth

I think the Idea of focusing on scoreing from a remote in Sports, with Tucana and seamless certainly has some real merits... (and tucana + 2/1 agendas is amazing value) I recon if you focus your build more on that element then you've probably got a decent build going!

@Baa Ram Wu Thanks for the feedback and the game earlier.

You make a good point with the agendas, I hadn't really considered dropping a salvo for a 3/2. And you point out the forfeiting, I'll probably drop the archer. I like the idea of forfeiting a 2/1 for it, but in most circumstances the archer isn't worth its cost. At least obert can turn the gas up even if it has to eat a mega Prix. I'll make some changes and do some grinding tomorrow. Thanks again for the feedback.
